Laurie Sarah Morganite

With so many brides desiring Colored Gemstone Engagement Rings instead of traditional Diamond Engagement Rings, my husband and I get asked all the time about Morganite. Brides want to know, “Is Morganite Good for my Engagement Ring?” Known as the “Stone of Love”, it’s no surprise that it has become increasingly popular! Here’s some information to help you decide if Morganite is the perfect gem for you!

Morganite Facts:

Meaning

Commonly referred to as the “Stone of Love”, thus the reason why so many choose it for their Laurie Sarah Engagement Ring. It is also said to represent Purity and Potential.

History

Originally discovered by George Kunz in 1910 in Madagascar. He named it after his friend and customer J.P. Morgan – thus the name Morganite.

Colors

Many hues of Pink, Purplish-Pink, to Orange-Pink, Salmon, and some almost White to Light Tans.

Treatment

Almost always heat-treated to improve the pink color. Treatment is not detectable, and the resulting color is stable and will not fade.

Mineral

Beryl – the same mineral that makes up Emerald and Aquamarine

Mohs hardness

7.5-8 (Sapphires are 9, Diamonds are 10)

Where mined

Mostly Brazil. Other sources are Madagascar (still considered where some of the best Morganite comes from) Afghanistan, Mozambique, Namibia and the United States

Care

Clean with a baby soft toothbrush and warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly to remove any soap residue. Lay it with the Morganite face down on a paper towel to dry. Avoid contact with harsh chemicals, hair spray and some lotions. Store in its own space or cloth to avoid scratching against other jewelry.

Hello ! I would like to know if your Morganites are lab created or natural gems ? How can I know if stone I choose have been treated or not ? Thank you

    • Laurie S. says:

Hi Kristy! So all the morganites we carry are natural, genuine morganites – no fakes here! If you are familiar with morganite, you would be able to tell if it was fake. Our rings come with a Certificate of Authenticity to give you peace of mind. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Laurie Sarah
